The Constitution Day of Ukraine is celebrated annually on June 28.

The Constitution of Ukraine was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on June 28, 1996.This is the basic law of the country, which guarantees every citizen of Ukraine his rights and freedoms.

In addition, the Constitution Day of Ukraine is the only national holiday that is enshrined in the Constitution itself.

Interesting facts about the Constitution of UkraineIn addition to the current Constitution, there were 4 other similar documents in the history of Ukraine:

- Constitution of Philip Orlyk 1710;

- Constitution of the Ukrainian People's Republic, adopted on April 29, 1918;

- Constitution of the Western Ukrainian People's Republic, adopted on November 13, 1918;

- Provisional Constitution of Carpathian Ukraine on March 15, 1939.

The process of drafting the Constitution of Ukraine lasted six years - from 1990 to 1996. During this time, 15 draft documents were proposed.

There were heated discussions about the powers between the branches of government, symbols, private property, as well as the status of the Republic of Crimea and the Russian language.

President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma was not present at the parliamentary session.

The smallest copy of the Basic Law of Ukraine is 2 × 3 cm. It was created by artist Ihor Stepanov in 2011. The first words of the then Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Moroz after the adoption of the Constitution by 315 votes were as follows: There is a Constitution!

The international community has approved the Constitution of Ukraine, calling it one of the most democratic in the world.
